Milligan College, Tenn. (September 2, 2010) --- The Milligan College baseball team saw a number of current and former players have successful summers. Brett Maddox (Lake Butler, FL) and Jason Trivett (Bluff City, TN) helped lead their team to successful summer campaigns, while former Milligan pitcher Mike Gallo (Peabody, Mass.) was picked up by MLB’s Washington Nationals.
Trivett just wrapped another championship season this summer with the Matsu Miners of the Alaskan Baseball League. He was also a standout pitcher for the Tennessee Tornado of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League last summer.
“Trivett is a winner period,” said Chris Gordon, pitching coach for both Milligan and the Tennessee Tornado. “If you are around Trivett for any length of time you begin to realize what makes him so successful. He has tremendous drive and determination. He has thrived in pressure situations since arriving on campus, and he has done the same thing for me in the SCBL and for the Miners. He is also a first class person and has a bright future no matter what he pursues.”
In 23 innings pitched, Trivett struck out 16 batters and allowed only 10 runs. The Miners finished the season 33-15. The Miners ended the summer ranked as the 8th summer team in the country. Trivett will be a senior this upcoming season for the Buffs.
Milligan College, Tenn. (Aug. 16, 2010) --- The Milligan College baseball team has added another local standout in Unicoi County’s Ben Powers. Head Coach Nathan Meade made the announcement.
“We are extremely excited to have Ben in our program,” Meade said. “He is a very talented local player that we are very fortunate to welcome to the club. We have had our eye on Ben for a couple of years now, and feel that his athleticism will enable him to contribute in many different ways.”
Powers hit .315 with nine homeruns and 47 RBIs during his senior season with the Blue Devils.
“Ben comes from a great program under Coach Baxter at Unicoi High School,” Meade added. “He is a good fit here both athletically and academically.”
