Ellis, men’s hoops cruise to AAC win

Box Score MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 5, 2014) – Aggressive defense and up-tempo offense were the keys to Milligan College's 91-72 victory over Truett-McConnell College Wednesday night in AAC men's basketball action at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
 
Milligan improved to 14-8 (8-6 AAC), a game and a half out of second place in conference play. Truett-McConnell dropped to 2-21 (2-12 AAC).
 
The Buffaloes forced 18 turnovers with 10 steals on defense while matching the team's season high for made field goals in a game (35) on offense. Junior forward Chris Ellis made eight of those, on eight attempts, and finished with a game-high 21 points. He scored 17 in the first half.
 
Ellis also added 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. His previous double-double this season came when Milligan faced Truett-McConnell on the road (Dec. 7). He scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds then.
 
Milligan spent the first seven minutes of regulation trading baskets with the Bears until a free throw by Mike Woods, Jr. at the 13:17 mark put the Buffaloes into the lead for good. Milligan led by eight at the half (47-39) and extended its lead to as many as 20 in the second half.
 
Torian Sitton scored 13 points and dished out five assists. Cartree Pettis scored eight points with six assists and four steals.
 
For TMC, J'Qauveon Williams (19), Andretti Loyd (17) and Thierry Fredric (15) all reached double figures. Loyd tallied 12 rebounds.
 
The Buffaloes can scratch a game closer to the top of the conference standings when they welcome second-place Bryan College (14-10, 9-4 AAC) to the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 8. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m., following the women's game.
