Buffs drop game to Asbury
Berea, Ky. (Nov. 16, 2007) --- The Milligan College (4-1) men's basketball team broke their win streak tonight in a close game with Asbury College (3-2). The Buffs lost 80-75 in the first night of the Berea College Classic.
The Buffs fought hard through the first half, but when the horn sounded the Buffs were down 37-31. The second half Milligan would jump out and cut Asbury's lead to one, but with 10 minutes to go in the half Asbury hit two three point baskets in a row to go up by nine points. With just under two minutes left the Buffs cut the lead back down to three, but Asbury sealed the victory by draining their free throws to fend off the Buffs.
The deciding factor in tonight's game was the three point arc. Asbury went 8 for 15 on the night, opposed to the Buffs 3 for 10 effort.
Junior Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) recorded a double-double knocking down 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Sophomore Danny McKeehan (Morrow, Ohio ) also had a double-double on the evening with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Davis Warner (Smyrna, Tenn.) was one rebound away from a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.
“We just could not get a stop when we needed one,” said Milligan College Head Coach Tony Wallingford. “(Asbury) played a good ball game and they hit all of their free throws down the stretch. We just have to keep our heads up and get ready for another tough game tomorrow.”
The Buffs play the second day of the Berea Classic Saturday, Nov. 17, against the host team Berea College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
