Buffs down Crown College
Milligan College, Tenn. (Nov. 27, 2007) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team ran past Crown College Tuesday night in their first game back in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse in over two weeks. The Buffs beat Crown 105-32.
The Buffs had a good day from the field shooting 41 out of 74, for a percentage of 55. The Buffs were also 55% (11-20) from beyond the arc. The Royal Crusaders of Crown College went 12 out of 39 from the field, for a percentage of 31. The Buffs were perfect from the charity stripe shooting 12 out of 12.
The turnover ratio and the bench scoring were key elements in the victory tonight for the Buffs. The Buffs forced 33 turnovers in the ball game, and only gave up 14. The Buffs bench outscored the Royal Crusaders 68-5. Milligan also out rebounded Crown College 45 to 8.
Leading the Buffs in scoring was senior Joe Brown (Blountville, Tenn.) with 18 points. Brown was perfect from beyond the arc, draining six 3-point baskets in a row. Following Brown, was freshman Davis Warner (Smyrna, Tenn.) with 14 points and four rebounds. Pitching in 10 points was sophomore Jonathan Dye (Clinton, Tenn.). Dye also forced five steals on the night. In only 10 minutes of play, sophomore Danny McKeehan (Morrow, Ohio) scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds and tied Dye with the most steals at five. Junior Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) led the Buffs in rebounds with nine.
“It was good to get back in action after the Thanksgiving break,” said Milligan College Head Coach Tony Wallingford. “We were able to play some different guys tonight which was good. The guys have really been working hard in practice so it was nice to get them all some playing time. We are looking forward to our league opener tomorrow against Tennessee Wesleyan.”
The Buffs open up AAC conference play Wednesday, Nov. 28, playing host to the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
