Buffs stay hot, defeat Bulldogs
Milligan College, Tenn. (Nov. 28, 2007) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team starts out the opening game of the 2007-2008 AAC season in style, defeating the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan 96-66.
The Buffs started out strong, as did they finish. Milligan had another great night from the field shooting 61.4% (35-57) and 64.3% (9-14) from beyond the arc. The Buffs also out rebounded the Bulldogs 36 to 25. Milligan received 31 points from the bench as opposed to 18 from Wesleyan's bench.
Sophomore Danny McKeehan (Morrow, Ohio) led all players in scoring with 17 points, while pulling down four rebounds and forcing two steals. Junior Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) was one behind McKeehan with 16 points, but led all players in rebounds with eight. Freshman Davis Warner (Smyrna, Tenn.) played tough for Milligan contributing 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Sophomore Derrick Nave (Elizabethton, Tenn.) was the fourth Buff in double digits with 14 points and four assists.
“We had good energy early in the game. We were able to do some scoring on primary break opportunities, which got us out to a good lead early,” said Milligan College Head Coach Tony Wallingford. “(Wesleyan) did not play as well as they are capable of, so we were pleased with the win. As always, we are going to try to continue to improve, but we are happy to get off to a good start in the conference.”
The Buffs hit the road Saturday, Dec. 1, to face fellow AAC member Virginia Intermont. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
