Buffs clinch conference clash
Bluefield, Va. (September 29, 2007) -- The Milligan College men's soccer team clinched a vital away conference win with an 87 th minute goal by Josh Stevens (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.). Rasmus Willhemsson (Yetterby, Sweden) provided the assist for the game-winning goal and also choreographed the offensive pressure from midfield throughout the encounter. The Milligan Buffs out-shot the Bluefield Rams 21-3, and ultimately deserved the victory for their efforts.
Nathan Ireland (Grimsby, England) and Daniel Fuller (Plainfield, Ind.) were instrumental in controlling the home teams' counter-attacks, while the Buffs claimed 13 corners to the home teams' 1.
“Chances were created in the first-half but we just didn't capitalize,” commented Assistant Coach Lisa Buckley. “As the game went on we became more efficient with the possession we worked so well for, and eventually got the result we deserve.”
The Buffs will take on conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan, Oct. 2. Kick-off is set for 7 p. m. at home in Milligan College.
