Buffs lose in close home opener

Milligan College, Tenn. (August 31, 2007) --- The Milligan College men's soccer team, showed heart and determination in their home opener, but fell short to the Marian College Knights 1-2. The Buffs played the game without two of their key players, Stuart Makinson and Rasmus Willhemsson; however that did not keep them from putting on a strong performance. Milligan was the first to strike in the game, and that came from a strong Phil Wilson (Middlesboro, England) shot. The knights later in the game scored two soft goals, from which the Buffs were unable to recover.

Overall the team played well and put up a strong defensive effort. Junior Josh Stephens (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) and senior Kyle Wilcox (Indianapolis, Ind.) both played really well showing determination throughout. The team gave a glimpse of the bright future that is ahead of them.

Head Coach Dave Dixon said, “We were a bit unlucky tonight, but we need to work harder to finish and become sharper overall.”

The Milligan College Buffaloes will return to action on Sunday Sept. 2, at Anglin Field, Milligan College for a double header. The men's soccer team will play at 5p.m. against Brescia University. The women's soccer team will follow at 7 p.m. in a tough encounter against Lindsey Wilson College, the defending NAIA National Champions.
