Buffs show strong second half performance.
Milligan College, Tenn. (September 7, 2007) --- The Milligan College men's soccer team put on a good second half performance to defeat Southern Polytechnic 2-0. The first half was challenging for them because Southern Polytechnic had dropped everyone back into the box, making it difficult to get a good shot.
The first half was rather challenging for the Buffs, but a few halftime adjustments were made. These changes opened up more opportunities for the Buffs. The first Buff goal was scored by Phil Wilson (Middlesbrough, England). Then the second goal came in the 78 minute of the game, from a nice cross by Josh Stephens (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) and an exceptional finish by Rasmus Willhemsson (Ytterby, Sweden).
The team played showed a strong work ethic and Bryan Newbold (Sylva N.C.) made some astounding saves in the goal. Credit also goes to the defense for playing well and keeping tabs on one of the fastest forwards they have seen this season. Phil Wilson (Middlesbrough, England ), also showed some intensity and good play throughout the game. Overall it was a great team effort to come away with the victory.
“We made a few halftime adjustments that helped us play faster and more dangerous,” said Head Coach Dave Dixon. “And I am proud of the shutout and it was an overall good result.
The men's soccer team will be playing a conference game against King College at Anglin Field on Sept. 12, 2007 at 7 p.m. |
