Lady Buffs fall in opening round

Rio Grande, Ohio. (Nov. 16, 2007) --- The Lady Buffs basketball team fell to the Lady Cavs of Walsh Univeristy today in the first round of the Bevo Francis Classic at the University of Rio Grande. The game ended with a score of 77-74.

The Lady Buffs trailed by 16 points at one time during the first half and began with a rough start. They continually cut into the lead and ended the first half with a score of 45-35. During the second half, the girls tied the score three times and took the lead with less than one minute left in regulation. Rikki Baughman (Elizabethton, Tenn.) hit two free throws to tie the score. Her points were answered by Katie Berry's (Walsh University) driving basket; the Lady Cavs regained the lead by one. A missed three-point goal with five seconds of time remaining left the Lady Buffs behind for the eventual lose.

Baughman lead the team with a dominating 20 points and five rebounds. Freshman Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) followed with 17 points and four rebounds.

“We got off to a poor start that put us in a hole”, commented Head Coach Rich Aubrey, “but, we fought hard to come back. Unfortunately, we were unable to make a few key plays at the end of the game to finish it.

”The Lady Buffs will play tomorrow, November 17, 2007, in the consolation game. They will be playing the winner of the Walsh University/University of Rio Grande College game.
