Elizabethtons Aubrey inks with Milligan
Elizabethton, Tenn. (Dec 13, 21007) --- As soon as she began playing soccer, Amy Aubrey dreamed of playing collegiately at Milligan.
On Wednesday, the Elizabethton senior took her first step towards her dream by signing with the Lady Buffaloes.
"I'm really excited," Aubrey said. "Since I've started playing soccer, my dream was to play at Milligan."
Aubrey's no stranger to Milligan. Her father, Rich, is the head women's basketball coach at the school. She's played with several of the players on the Lady Buffs' squad and felt like a great fit.
Milligan head women's coach Lisa Buckley feels Aubrey will be an asset to the program.
"She's a smart player with the ball," Buckley said. "Defensively, she gives us the bite we're missing. I think she can help us.
"We were lucky (to get her). It's a great fit not just athletically but what she brings to the school. We're excited about her."
At Elizabethton, Aubrey proved to be one of the more versatile players in the region playing each position on the gridiron. She was also a vocal leader for the squad.
"She's played everything but goalie and maybe she did that one game," said Elizabethton coach Bill McClay, whose daughter Samantha plays for the Lady Buffs.
"She's been a key in the midfield and the heart of the team whether it be motivating her teammates or devising pregame pep talks. I think she'll prosper at the next level. I think she'll enjoy it. I think she'll be able to contribute for their team."
Aubrey totaled 26 goals during her four years as a Lady Cyclone. She said playing multiple positions helped her add a lot to her game.
"It's especially helped me in the midfield, being able to play D," Aubrey said. "It's nice to be able to play wherever they need me. It's added a lot to my game."
She credited her high school coach and teammates for helping her during the previous four years.
"Coach McClay's been a great coach and my skills have gotten better thanks to him," Aubrey said. "I've got to thank my teammates for encouraging me. One thing I'll take is my relationships with my teammates."
Along with the coaches, Aubrey was joined by her parents Rich and Sheri Aubrey, sister Erin and teammates at the signing.
Aubrey additionally noted she planned to work towards a degree in Communications with a goal to take an active role in the ministry with her profession.
