Milligan drops close call

Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 19, 2007) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team sustained numerous setbacks and hurdles resulting in a narrow defeat by Georgetown College by a margin of 1-0. Injuries took their toll on the Lady Buffs, most notable the absence of Kara Zutt (Louisville, Ky.).

Milligan's women started the game with a high-tempo first-half; however the Lady Tigers were not to be silenced as they out shot the home team 16-8. Rosanna Couture (Ontario, Canada) was impeccable in net during most of the encounter, racking up 12 saves, which kept the Lady Buffs in the game.

An unorganized defense allowed Brittany Hunt to capitalize for the visitors in the 62 minute. This strike was to prove pivotal as it was the game-winning goal.

The Lady Buffs continued to fight despite the final whistle edging ever closer. The final moments defined the game in which the home team could simply not catch a break. An unassisted Jenna Zutt (Louisville, Ky.) free-kick struck the cross-bar deep into the second-half, but the home team just could not finish. Couture stepped up for the Lady Buffs late in the encounter when she blocked a penalty-kick in the 87 minute.

“We were desperately unlucky and we battled well throughout,” commented Assistant Coach Lisa Buckley. “With the return of Kara (Zutt) from injury, we're looking forward to the conference clash with Tennessee Wesleyan.”

Next up for the Lady Buffs is Asbury College tomorrow the 20th. Kick-off is set for 4:30pm in Lexington, Ky.
