Lady Buffs battle but come up short
Milligan College, Tenn. (September 12, 2007) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team battled throughout their second Appalachian Athletic Conference game of the season against King, but ultimately fell to the Tornado's. The final score of 1-3 was an undeserving margin of victory considering the closely contested game for the entirety.
The Lady Tornado's struck first in the 24 minute when Sara Ham caught the Lady Buff defense napping, and finished well to get the visitors off to a dream start. Milligan College freshmen Kristen Crute (Marietta, Ga.) led the defensive work against the away team, but to no avail. Sara Dysarczyk found the target in the 32 minute to claim the game-winner, which proved demoralizing for the hosts.
A flurry of goal-mouth activity result in the Tornado's extending their lead in the 80 minute when Lisa Forgione took advantage of a momentary lapse by the Lady Buffs' defense. A consolation goal in the 81 minute was captured by Milligan's Jenna Zutt (Lexington, Ky.) from an unassisted free-kick.
"We battled well but just couldn't get the lucky bounce this evening," said Assistant Coach Lisa Buckley. "We've got a few things to address with the defense, but we're really looking forward to getting back-on-track in conference play on Saturday."
The Lady Buffs will travel to Covenant College where they will continue conference play. Kick-off is set for 3:30p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15. For more information please visit www.milliganbuffs.com.
