Spot-kick trumps Lady Buffs

Banner Elk, N.C. (Sept. 27, 2007) --- The Milligan women's soccer team out shot the Lady Bobcats of Lees McRae College 9-5, but ultimately lost the non-conference clash, to a penalty-kick. Tiffany Rodman converted the penalty-kick to claim the game-winning goal  in the 20th minute of regulation.

The Lady Buffs dominated play for the entirety, claiming 5 corner-kicks and 9 shots as opposed to the Lady Bobcats' 2 corner-kicks and 5 shots. The stellar defensive work by the visitors prevented the Division II powerhouse from capitalizing on home advantage. Jenna Zutt (Louisville, Ky.) , in her new defensive role, held the Lady Bobcats at bay during open play. Samantha McClay (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Kelley Foster (Johnson City, Tenn.) both contributed to the offensive pressure and worked well throughout, but just could not find an opening.

"They played well and were just a little unlucky not to finish a few opportunities that were created." commented Assistant Coach Lisa Buckley. "It's a definite improvement from the last game, and it's encouraging as we approach the next conference game."

Next up for the Lady Buffs is an away conference clash with Bluefield College. Kick-off is set for 2p.m. on, Sept. 29.
