Lady Buffs downed by Lady Bulldofs
Athens, Tenn. (Oct. 23, 2007) --- The Lady Buffs soccer teams' resilience held-out for most of the first-half against conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan but to no avail. The Lady Buffs were dumped out of the AAC tournament qualifying round by the Lady Bulldogs by a margin of 3-0.
The Lady Buffs started the away encounter well with through passes that created opening and difficulties for the home defense. Despite their positive play the Lady Buffs could not create an opening, and ultimately went to the half-time break one goal down due to a shot that found the target via ricochet. Maintaining the possibility of a come-back was Rosanna Couture (Ontario, Canada), whose 12 first-half saves allowed the Lady Buffs to pressurize their rivals and look for the equalizer.
The second-half saw more up-tempo play from the visitors who were looking for a way to tie the encounter. With much of the Lady Buffs resources committed to the offense, the Lady Bulldogs took full advantage of the exposed defense and capitalize in the final 15 minutes twice. Helen Collins struck within converted two goals minutes of one another to put the tie beyond doubt.
“We didn't finish with the record or results we wanted, but I strongly believe that the experience for the freshmen will ultimately pay off,” commented Assistant Coach Lisa Buckley.
