Sluggish start stumps Lady Buffs
Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2007) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team played well during phases of the encounter with conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan, but ultimately paid dearly for losing concentration during other segments of the game which resulted in a 2-4 home defeat.
The Lady Buffs conceded an early goal when the Lady Bulldogs' Helen Collins connected with a corner-kick to open the scoring for the visitors. The lack of concentration by the home squad allowed another two Lady Bulldogs to add their names to the score sheet in the 25 th and 29 minute. The early onslaught from the visitors was not to go unanswered, as Becca Mauldin (Clinton, Miss.) fired home a response just before half-time in the 43 rd minute.
Collins added her second of the match in the 48 th minute when she caught the Lady Buffs' defense napping just after the break. Mauldin struck late in the encounter to restore a sense of respectability to the score sheet, but it was too late.
"They're probably the best starting 11 in the conference." commented Head Coach Dave Dixon. "We were simply too slow to start. The early goals in both halves really took their toll on the moral of the team. When you concede such soft goals it's very difficult to get any sort of result from a quality team like them."
The Lady Buffs will take to the road for a non-conference clash with Berry College. Kick-off is set for 3pm in Rome, Ga., Friday, Oct. 5 th.
