Milligan volleyball wins on senior night

Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 30, 2007) --- There was a lot of emotion in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse Tuesday night as four Milligan Volleyball players played their last game at home. Through the emotion they faired well, and received the story book ending that most Lady Buffs fans had hoped. The Lady Buffs came out firing but did not seal the first game, 30-27. Milligan bounced back winning the second game 30-27.  The Lady Rams won the third 30-23. The Lady Buffs nearing defeat battled back to win the fourth game 30-17. The tiebreaker would favor the home team, securing the victory for the Lady Buffs and their seniors.

Freshman Erin Biddle (Newport, Tenn.) racked up 64 assists in the contest for the Lady Buffs.  Biddle also led in digs with 26. Other Lady Buffs that helped out with digs were senior Emily Rigney (Danville, Ky.) with 21 and freshman Ashley Welch (Waynesville, N.C.) with 18. Leading in kills was senior Amanda Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) with 24, while Welch tallied 21 and another double-double. Sophomore Meredith Lynch (Lexington, Ky.) blocked the Lady Rams six times on the night.  Freshman Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) and senior Alison Slagle (Bristol, Tenn.) both had two aces.

“Senior night was a testament to our seniors,” said Milligan College Head Coach Kim Hyatt. “The seniors kept us in the game the entire time through their leadership on and off of the court. The freshmen really played hard for the seniors tonight as well. The win tonight was an entire team effort.”

The Lady Buffs travel to Bristol, Va. Thursday, Nov. 1, to take on AAC rival King College. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
