Milligan Volleyball defeats Lady Bulldogs
Athens, Tenn. (Oct. 26, 2007) --- The Lady Buffs took all five games but they were victorious in the battle over the Lady Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan. The first game the Lady Buffs dropped 30-27 to the Lady Bulldogs. They bounced back though winning the second in regulation, 30-27, and the third in overtime, 35-33. With Tennessee Wesleyan on the brink of defeat, they rallied to win the fourth 30-26. The tiebreaker game belonged to Milligan with a score of 15-11.
Freshman Erin Biddle (Newport, Tenn.) led the Lady Buffs in assists with 57. Leading in kills for the Lady Buffs was freshman Ashley Welch (Waynesville, N.C.) with 21, while sophomore Kalyn Perrigan (Bristol, Tenn.) had 11 and senior Amanda Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) had 10. On the defensive side, Welch and Biddle had 14 digs, but were led by freshman Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) with 16. Sophomore Meredith Lynch (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.) both had five blocks for the Lady Buffs. Biddle led the way in aces with six, while senior Emily Rigney (Danville, Ky.) had five.
Each point was a battle for us tonight, said Milligan College Head Coach Kim Hyatt. We just kept fighting and we were eventually victorious. It was a slower pace game than we are used to playing, but we stayed focused well.
The Lady Buffs next opponent is Covenant College, at Covenant, Saturday Oct. 27, at 10 a.m.
