Volleyball claims home conference win
Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 16, 2007) --- The Lady Buffs got back in the winner's circle Tuesday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse defeating the Lady Cavaliers of Montreat College. Milligan won the first game with a score of 30-26, but then Montreat answered winning the second 30-26. The third and final games belonged to the Lady Buffs with scores of 30-18 and 30-25.
Freshman Erin Biddle (Newport, Tenn.) tallied 65 assists for the Lady Buffs in the contest. Leading the way in kills was freshman Ashley Welch (Waynesville, N.C.) with 26 and senior Amanda Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) with 20. Freshman Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the Lady Buffs with 31 digs, while Welch had 22. Defensively at the net freshman Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.), Welch, and Hyder all had five blocks. Welch also racked up three aces.
“This was a big conference win for us tonight,” said Milligan College Head Coach Kim Hyatt. “The team really came together and executed great. Everyone did their job tonight and we really played volleyball the Milligan way.”
The Lady Buffs host the Lady Cavaliers of UVA-Wise Thursday, Oct. 18, in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
