Milligan volleyball losses battle
Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 18, 2007) --- The Lady Buffs fought hard against the Lady Cavaliers of UVA-Wise, but it was just not enough. Milligan came out strong winning the first game 30-28, but the next two games were all UVA-Wise with them winning both games 30-19. The last game of the night started off looking similar to the last two, but then the Lady Buffs made a run in which it was a battle to the end. The final score was in favor of UVA-Wise 30-27.
Freshman Erin Biddle (Newport, Tenn.) racked up 51 assists for the Lady Buffs in the match. Leading in kills was freshman Ashley Welch (Waynesville, N.C.) with 18 while sophomore Kalyn Perrigan (Bristol, Tenn.) had 13 and senior Amanda Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) had 12. Freshman Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) tallied 18 digs for the Lady Buffs. Also helping out with digs was senior Alyssa Graber (Montgomery, Ind.) with 15 and Welch with 13. Defensively at the net freshman Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.) had four blocks on the night. Senior Alison Slagle (Bristol, Tenn.) had for aces.
“This was a tough loss for us tonight,” said Milligan College Head Coach Kim Hyatt. “We played well in spurts, but then we got relaxed and in volleyball when you get relaxed it is tough to win. We made a couple of runs which were good, but the lulls are what killed us.”
The Lady Buffs host the Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont Tuesday, Oct. 23, in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
