Milligan volleyball win big over VI
Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 23, 2007) --- The Lady Buffs were ready to play Tuesday night as they faced the Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont. The Lady Buffs in their last meeting with the Lady Cobras resulted in a loss, but the Lady Buffs answered settling the score 1-1. Milligan won in three straight games; 30-25, 30-27, and 30-28.
Freshman Erin Biddle (Newport, Tenn.) continues to aid the Lady Buffs at the setter position tallying 43 assists. Leading in kills for the Lady Buffs was freshman Ashley Welch (Waynesville, N.C.) with 18, while sophomore Kalyn Perrigan ( Bristol , Tenn. ) had 10 and senior Amanda Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) had 10. On the defensive side, Welch also had 15 digs which makes for her second double-double in the past three games. Also helping out with digs was Biddle with 11 and senior Alyssa Graber (Montgomery, Ind.) with 10. Seemingly standing taller than her listed 5'9” height, sophomore Meredith Lynch (Lexington, Ky.) confounded the Lady Cobra defense with six blocks on the night. Graber also racked up three aces.
“Our focus for tonight was to really come together as a team, and we did that on both the offensive and defensive side,” said Milligan College Head Coach Kim Hyatt. “The tempo of the game was much faster, which is a better pace for us. Everybody stepped up and made plays tonight for us, and that really helped us grab a win.”
The Lady Buffs hit the road to take on Tennessee Wesleyan Friday, Oct. 26. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
