Lady Buffs Volleyball Open with Win
Greenville, S.C. (August 27, 2007) --- The Milligan College Lady Buffs volleyball team opened their season on Monday evening with a win over the Lady Crusaders of North Greenville University. The Lady Buffs won the match in three games.
The Lady Buffs won the first game of the match 30-24. The Lady Crusaders fought back in the second match, but the Lady Buffs were able to pull out a win with a final of 30-27. The third game of the match also went to the Lady Buffs with a final of 30-21.
Senior Amanda Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the Buffs in kills with a total of nine. Hyder also contributed four aces in the contest. Following Hyder in kills was freshman Ashley Welch (Waynesville, N.C.) with eight.
Other key contributors on the offensive side were senior Allison Slagle (Bristol, Tenn.) with 18 set assists and freshman Erin Biddle (Newport, Tenn.) with 13 set assists.
On the defensive side freshmen Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.) and Welch both had two blocks each.
Rounding out the defense was freshman Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) with 20 digs and junior Christy Degen (Atlanta, Ga.) with seven digs.
“Our defense really stepped up tonight,” said Head Coach Kim Hyatt. “We looked for open spaces and were able to hit it to those spaces. The girls came together and really played well as a team tonight.”
The Buffs are back in action for their home opener on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 6:30 p.m.
