Buffs begin fall practice
Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 25, 2008) --- The Milligan College baseball team began their fall practice a few weeks ago with a renewed enthusiasm. The Buffs will play a limited fall schedule with several inter-squad games as well as road trips to Mars Hill and Walters State.
“We feel good about the kids we've got this year,” said Head Coach Nathan Meade. “The overall mentality and work ethic of this team provides a solid foundation for us to build on.”
The Buffs return seven starters from last year's squad that finished 24-25. “We feel as if the kids returning have provided a good nucleus to build around,” added Meade. “This has allowed for a solid group of incoming transfers and freshmen to function well together as one unit in a short amount of time.”
The baseball team returned 21 players from last years roster, while they added 20 new players.
“The team coming together, working hard, and playing as one unit is the most important thing for our club this year,” commented senior catcher Brandon Murphy (Johnson City, Tenn.).
After the completion of the inter-squad games, the Buffs will travel to Walters State on Saturday, Oct. 18, to take on the Senators. Milligan also plans to tentatively play Mars Hill on the Wednesday, Oct. 1.
The Buffs open up their spring season against Brevard College on Tuesday, Feb. 3, on the road.
