Buffs slide by Malone University

Williamsburg, Ky. (Nov. 15, 2008) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team beat Malone University 88-85 in a consolation game in the University of the Cumberlands tournament. The Buffs finished the tournament in third place.

The Buffs outscored Malone in the first half 41-40. However, the Pioneers came back in the second half to outscore Milligan 34-33, leaving the score at a deadlock. In overtime, the Buffs outscored the Pioneers 14-11 to secure the win.

Freshman Darrell Miller (Nashville, Tenn.) led the Buffs in scoring with 20 points. Miller also tallied 12 rebounds. Senior Tyler Estepp (Limestone, Tenn.) had 19 points and two defensive rebounds, while senior Mykail Vibbert (Clinton, Tenn.) came off the bench to contribute 17 points and three rebounds.

Miller was selected to the All-Tournament team.

“This was great competition for early season games,” said Head Coach Tony Wallingford.  “We needed to be in some close game situations early with good teams and we got that this weekend.  We are hoping these games will make us stronger as we head into league play next week.” 

The Buffs play next on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Montreat College in their first conference match. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
