Mountain biking takes top in conference
Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2009) --- Milligan College’s new mountain biking varsity sport raced in a dual conference meet last Saturday and Sunday. The Buff bikers claimed one first place, two second places, and a third place in their conference.
The Buffs started off the meet on Saturday with freshman Jared Abel’s (Charlotte, N.C.) first-place finish amongst the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (SECCC) bikers in the men’s B cross country race. Sophomore Micah Redden (Portsmouth, Ohio) also competed well for the Buffs, placing seventh in the SECCC. Sophomore Jeffrey Twaddell (Atlanta, Ga.) finished second in the SECCC in men’s C cross country race.
The Buffs next took to the short track on Sunday. Abel and Redden went two-three in the SECCC in men’s B short track cross country. In the men’s C short track cross country, Twaddell finished second in the SECCC.
“This weekend’s dual conference, Atlantic Coast Cycling Conference and Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference, races were a test of our mental toughness,” said Head Coach Brad Hill. “With wet trail conditions and the extra riders on the trails racing, this weekend was sloppy. There were several riders that went down or had mechanical failures. I'm proud of the way our guys kept getting up and back on their bikes. They showed how mentally tough they are.”
The Buffs race next at the Brevard College Race (Brevard, N.C.) on Sept. 26-27. |
