Buffs comeback, remain atop AAC
Bluefield, Va. (Oct. 21, 2009) --- The Milligan College men’s soccer team responded after being down 2-0 to defeat the Rams of Bluefield College (Va.), 4-2, Wednesday night on the road.
The Rams opened up with back-to-back goals in the first 20 minutes of play to sit on top of the visiting Buffs, 2-0. The Buffs would respond, however, compliments of their leading goal scorer Philip Wilson (Middlesbrough, England), on a penalty kick just before the horn sounded to chip away at the deficit.
Facing defeat, the Buffs trailed 2-1 with only 10 minutes remaining in the contest, but the Buffs two fearless seniors mustered up a comeback. The English duo did it one more time, as Josh Scott (London, England) headed in a pass from Wilson to knot the game in the 80th minute. Just three minutes later, sophomore Sandre Wilson (Mandeville, Jamaica) broke free from midfield to tack on the go ahead goal. In the 86th minute, P. Wilson put a security goal on the board; as the Buffs went on to win it, 4-2.
The Buffs improve to 9-4-1 and a league best 5-1 with Wednesday’s win. With only one game remaining in the AAC regular season, the Buffs have all but clinched the regular season title.
Milligan hosts AAC member school Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday, Oct. 24, for their final home game of the season. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Anglin Field. |
