Wilson & Co. lead Buffs to win over VI
Milligan College, Tenn. (Nov. 7, 2009) --- The Milligan College men’s soccer team came out firing in their AAC quarterfinal matchup against Virginia Intermont Saturday night on Anglin Field. The Buffs ended the Cobras season with a 4-0 victory to advance to the AAC semifinals.
Milligan senior Phil Wilson (Middlesbrough, England) did all the right things Saturday night to keep his squad alive as he recorded his first career hat trick. All of Wilson’s three goals came in the opening half to help the Buffs secure the victory. Milligan’s other goal came from the Buffs’ other Wilson, Sandre, a transfer sophomore on the 2009 AAC regular season champion Buffs squad.
“VI came out with a lot of energy and really forced us to play well tonight,” commented Head Coach Adam Laney. “It was a tough battle but we finally got the good result we have been looking for this season. Tonight was a great team effort and hopefully we can carry this momentum into the semifinals.”
With the win, the Buffs play Montreat (N.C.) College Friday, Nov. 13, on Anglin Field for the AAC semifinal round. Milligan being the higher seed, they will play the late game which is scheduled for 7 p.m.
