Lady Buffs split at ETSU

Johnson City, Tenn. (Oct. 10, 2009) --- The Milligan College softball team traveled across town to face off against East Tennessee State and Tusculum College in a local softball showcase Saturday at ETSU’s newly built stadium.  

The Lady Buffs took the opener against Tusculum 7-2, but fell in the nightcap to the host Lady Bucs 3-0.  

In the pitcher’s circle during game one was junior standout Sidney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) earning the win in six innings of work over the Lady Pioneers. Burns scattered four hits and yielded an earned run, while striking out four and walking one.  

At the plate, freshman Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) paced the Lady Buffs going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Lady Buff’s slugger Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) was 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored. Unicoi’s Alicia Engle (Erwin, Tenn.) was also 1-for-2 with a run scored.  

Burns was also the pitcher of record in game two against the Lady Bucs earning the loss in three innings of work. Burns scattered just three hits and gave up an earned run in the effort.  

The Lady Buffs lone hit came from the bat of freshman Allie Smith (Lebanon, Va.) who was 1-for-3 at the plate in the second game.  

The Lady Buffs travel to the University of Tennessee for the Lady Vols Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17.
