Buffs win against King, Licari tallies two wins

Milligan College, TN (October 24, 2009) --- The Milligan College men’s and women’s swim team had a strong showing in a duel meet against rival King College. The boy’s squad won handily 131 to 81, while the girl’s squad fell 132-81 respectively.

From the beginning of the meet, Aaron Pigford (Johnson City, Tenn.), Evan Alfano (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Daniel Warfield (Andersonville, Tenn.) and Eron Cavanaugh (Plainfield, Ind.) won the men’s first event, the 200 meter medley, with a time of 1:52.91.

Sophomore Victoria Licari (Atascadero, Calif.) earned herself two victories for the Lady Buffs, finishing the 200 meter individual medley in 2:50.51 and the 100 meter breaststroke with a 1:23.10 time. Junior Rachel Landry (Boone, N.C.) swam to a come-from-behind victory in the 200 meter freestyle with a winning time of 2:28.79.

Winning by over two seconds, sophomore Pigford blew the field away in the 100 meter backstroke with a winning time of 1:01.57. The men also won both the 200 and the 400 meter freestyle relays. The 200 relay was won by a slight .5 seconds at 1:44.46, and the 400 meter race was won in 3:56.55.

Alfano and Chris Fry (Greenwood, Ind.) both tallied up a combined four individual first place finishes for the Buffs’ squad. Alfano won the 200 meter individual medley with time of 2:17.60 and the 100 meter breaststroke with final time of 1:10.16. Fry was victorious in the 100 meter butterfly with time of 1:06.19 and decisively won the 200 meter freestyle by nearly nine seconds with time of 2:10.43.

The Aqua Buffs’ next event will be in Sewanee, Tenn., on November 6-7 to compete in the Sewanee Invitational.
