Lady Buffs win, two more qualifiers added

Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 17, 2009) --- The Milligan College Lady Aqua Buffs won their home meet against NCAA Division II Pfeiffer University, while the men’s team notched two national qualifiers on Saturday.

The Lady Aqua Buffs won their first meet of the season in a dramatic 108-107 finish, which marks their second win since the program’s inception in 2007. Junior Rachel Landry (Boone, N.C.) won the 100 meter freestyle by .02 seconds, touching the wall just before Lady Falcon Nicole DiVaccaro to give the Lady Buffs the advantage. Also notching a first place finish was sophomore Victoria Licari (Atascadero, Calif.) in the 200 meter breaststroke. 

On the men’s side, freshman Evan Alfano (Chattanooga, Tenn.) won the 200 meter breaststroke and qualified for the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in a time of 2:34.86. Alfano did double duty by also winning the 100 meter breaststroke earlier in the day.

Former Hilltopper Aaron Pigford (Johnson City, Tenn.), recorded a win in the 100 meter backstroke in a time of 1:00.43, the Aqua Buffs 400 meter freestyle relay of Alfano, Pigford and junior Taylor Duran (Johnson City, Tenn.) qualified for nationals with a time of 3:47.49.

The Aqua Buffs host NCAA Div. II King College (Tenn.) on Saturday, Oct. 24, for a 1 p.m. start time.
