Aqua Buffs finish fourth at Sewanee

Sewanee, Tenn. (Nov. 7, 2009) --- The Milligan College swim team placed fourth overall with 640 total points in the Sewanee Invitational Saturday afternoon.  

In the men’s 200 meter breaststroke, Milligan’s Evan Alfano (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished in 2:19.18 which is a new school record. Alfano was also part of the 200 medley relay that qualified for nationals in a time of 1:43.01. The other three members of the relay were Adam Lewis (Wilmington, Ohio), Aaron Pigford (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Eron Cavanaugh (Plainfield, Ind.).  

Additionally for the men, freshman Allen Guimbellot (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) won the 200 fly with a time of 2:17.96, which was also a school record. Pigford finished the day with two first place finishes in both the 50 and 100 backstroke with times of 25.90 and 55.13, respectively.

On the women’s side, the 200 free relay of Megan Lorencen (Johnson City, Tenn.), Darcee Kubisiak (Johnson City, Tenn.), Gretchen Grant (Blountville, Tenn.) and Rachel Landry (Boone, N.C.) qualified for nationals in a time of 1:52.95. Also for the women, Victoria Licari (Atascadero, Calif.) qualified for nationals in the 100 breaststroke with time of 1:13.67. 

Overall, the Milligan men tallied 434 points to finish fourth, while the women had 236 points en-route to a fifth place finish. The Univ. of the Cumberlands were the eventual champions with 2,253 points. 

The Aqua Buffs next swim meet will be in Williamsburg, Ky., on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 1:00 p.m. The tri-meet will feature King College and the Univ. of the Cumberlands.
