Tennis teams come up short to TWC

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 17, 2007)--- The Milligan college men’s and women’s tennis team suffered a pair of losses to the teams from Tennessee Wesleyan College by scores of 4-5, 2-7, respectively. The Buffs’ record drops to 4-9 overall and 2-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The Lady Buffs move to 5-8 overall, 3-3 AAC. Tennessee Wesleyan’s men hold an overall record of 3-7 behind the loss, while going 3-2 in conference play. The victory for the Tennessee Wesleyan women gives them a record of 4-7 overall, 4-2 AAC.

In men’s doubles, Milligan was swept by Tennessee Wesleyan as the Bulldogs would win all three matches. Milligan was able to record four victories in singles play, coming from Charles Williams (Perth, Australia) in the No. 2 match, Ryan Reynolds (Johnson City, Tenn.) in the No. 3 match, Tom Jones (Johnson City, Tenn.) in the No. 4 match and Bryan Upshaw (Kingsport, Tenn.) in the No. 6 match. However, Tennessee Wesleyan slipped by Milligan with a score of 4-5 to take the AAC win.

The Lady Buffs were also swept in doubles play by Tennessee Wesleyan and were only able to score two points in singles play behind wins from Amber Campbell (Erwin, Tenn.) and Myra O’Dell (Kingsport, Tenn.). The Lady Bulldogs would take the remaining matches to defeat Milligan 2-7.

The next challenge for the Lady Buffs will come on April 18, as they travel to Bristol, Tenn. to take on AAC opponent Virginia Intermont College at 3 p.m. The men’s team will not be competing again until the AAC Tournament, which is set to begin on April 20.
