Buffs stay alive, beat Bluefield
Bristol, Tenn. (May 1, 2008) --- The Milligan College men's baseball team withstood defeat Thursday afternoon in their win over Bluefield College in the second round of the AAC tournament. The Buffs won the contest 7-6.
Milligan battled strong with Bluefield College throughout the whole day. Milligan swept Bluefield in their previous meetings during the regular season, but Thursday the Rams would not give up. With the Buffs down one run in the bottom of the ninth, sophomore Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit a deep shot to center field which brought home runners on first and third. The two runs sealed the victory for the sixth seeded Buffs.
Junior Michael Dillow (Gray, Tenn.) started on the hill for the Buffs and pitched four innings of work. Sophomore Frank Newcomb (Knoxville, Tenn.) can in during the fifth inning to relieve Dilliow. Newcomb pitched three and two third innings. Freshman Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) completed the pitching trio for the Buffs as he came in during the eighth.
Senior Baker DeCamp (Miami, Fla.) continued to lead the Buffs at the plate as he went 4-5 with two RBIs. Sophomore Dallas Crouch (Jefferson City, Tenn.) also performed well at the plate as he went 2-2. Morgan went 2-5, including the two game winning RBIs.
The Buffs play at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, against UVA-Wise. The game will be played at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn.
