Milligan falls first round to King
Kingsport, Tenn. (April 30, 2008) --- The Milligan College men's baseball team fell to King College during the first round of the AAC tournament Wednesday at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn. The Buffs lost the contest in nine innings by a final of 4-3.
The Buffs held the Tornados to no runs through six innings, but the seventh inning brought home three King players. With the game tied through the top of the ninth the Buffs fought hard, but gave up a run to King in the bottom of the ninth earning them the defeat.
Senior Nathan Fritz (Kingsport, Tenn.) started on the mound for Milligan, as he scattered four hits in seven and a third innings of work. Fritz held the Tornados scoreless through six innings, but gave up three earned runs in the seventh. He tallied five strikeouts in the ball game. The loss goes to sophomore Frank Newcomb (Knoxville, Tenn.). Newcomb came in to relieve Fritz and pitched the remainder of the game. Newcomb gave up one earned run.
Two Buffs seniors fought hard offensively in their final AAC tournament. Senior Drew Anders (Johnson City, Tenn.) and senior Baker DeCamp (Miami, Fla.) went 2-3 and 2-4 respectively. Junior Brian Busby (Lexington, S.C.) also performed well at the plate as he went 2-3.
Following the loss, the Buffs will play Bluefield College Thursday, May 1, at King College. The game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. If Milligan moves on and defeats Bluefield at noon, then they will play again tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. This game will be played back at Hunter Wright Stadium granted the Milligan victory. |
