Buffs rout Brevard

Brevard, N.C. (March 25, 2008) --- The Milligan College men’s baseball team swept the series against Division II opponent, Brevard College, Tuesday afternoon on the road. The Buffs won the first game 7-1 and the final game 6-2.

Sophomore Todd Caldwell (Johnson City, Tenn.) recorded the win for the Buffs. Caldwell threw a complete game while he only scattered six hits. Caldwell struck out six batters, walked two, and only gave up one earned run. Leading the Buffs at the plate was senior Baker DeCamp (Miami, Fla.) going 3-4, with four RBIs and one run. Junior Brian Busby (Lexington, S.C.) went 3-5 with one RBI and two stolen bases, while junior Spencer Street (Johnson City, Tenn.) went 2-4 with two runs scored.

Senior Jon Stoudt (Marietta, Ga.) started the nightcap and threw four innings to get the win. Stoudt gave up two earned runs on just five hits. He also struck out three batters and walked two. Sophomore Frank Newcomb (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned the save in one inning of work. Newcomb faced four batters and struck out two of them to end the game. Junior Justin Motte (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the Buffs at the plate during the second game going 4-5 with one run and three RBIs. DeCamp continued with the hot bat going 2-4 during the second game scoring three runs and two RBIs, as did Busby who went 2-5 with one run and a triple.

“It was a great way to put two wins together in a complete team effort,” said junior catcher Brandon Murphy (Johnson City, Tenn.). “When we play defense behind our pitchers and score some runs we are a tough team to beat. We are looking to build off of today and take that into the conference game on Saturday.”

The Buffs host Bluefield College Saturday, March 29, for AAC action. The first game of the double-header is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
