Buffs splits with Scotts
Lookout Mountain, Ga. (March 22, 2008) --- The Milligan College men’s baseball team split with the Scots of Covenant College Saturday afternoon in AAC regular season action. The Buffs won the first 11-3, but lost the nightcap 3-2.
Junior Michael Dillow (Gray, Tenn.) chalked up the win for the Buffs in 6 2/3 innings. Dillow had one walk, one strikeout, and scattered seven hits. At the plate, sophomore Justin Motte (Johnson City, Tenn.) went 3-5 with a run scored, while sophomore Dallas Crouch (Jefferson City, Tenn.) went 4-5 with two runs scored, one RBI, and one stolen base. Sophomore Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) went 3-5 at the plate, including a double. Morgan scored two runs and drove two across the plate.
Senior Nathan Fritz (Kingsport, Tenn.) started out on the mound for the Buffs during the second game as he pitched 5 2/3 innings. Fritz walked three, struck out four, and gave up four hits. Sophomore Frank Newcombe (Knoxville, Tenn.) suffered the loss though, in 1 1/3 innings of work. Newcombe struck out one and walked one. Offensively during the nightcap, Morgan went 2-3 at the plate.
The Buffs travel to NCAA Division II affiliate Brevard College Tuesday, March 25, for a double-header. The first game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
