Buffs second in AAC
Milligan College, Tenn. (April 8, 2008) --- The Milligan College men’s golf team brought home second place in the AAC regular season conference tournament Tuesday at the Ridgefields Country Club in Kingsport, Tenn. The Buffs were in a three-way tie for third place with Covenant and UVA-Wise, and nine shots back from Union after the fall tournament.
Senior Grayson Patton (Fries, Va.) led the Buffs to the second place finish with a two round total of 144 (72/72). Patton also was named to the All-Tournament team as well as the All-AAC team. This marked Patton’s fourth All-AAC award. Freshman Ben Treadway (Johnson City, Tenn.) followed up his first round 78 with a smooth 73 on his way to a top 20 finish. Junior Jay Bernhardt (Johnston City, Ill.) was next for the Buffs as he fired a 155 (78/77). Freshman Ben Reno (Plainfield, Ind.) rounded out the Buffs top four with 156 (77/79).
The Buffs shot 305 the first round which put them in the final pairing for Tuesday’s final round. The Buffs followed up the steady first round score with a 301. The Buffs bettered Union by 12 strokes at the spring event, to edge them by three strokes overall. Tennessee Wesleyan followed up their first place finish in the fall with another solid performance in the spring to be on top of the AAC.
“I am happy with our performance,” said Patton. “We fought hard and played tough with some very good teams. We have been working hard and we hope that it pays off next week at the Region tournament.”
The Buffs gear up for the Region XII Tournament which takes place at London Country Club in London, Ky. The tournament is a 54-hole format with 36-holes being played on Monday, April 14, and 18-holes played on Tuesday, April 15.
