Milligan third at Region XII

London, Ky. (April 15, 2008) --- The Milligan College men’s golf team followed up last year’s Region XII victory with a respectable third place finish. The Buffs battled the 54-hole event at the 6,400 yard London Country Club.

The first and second rounds saw similar playing conditions of previous tournaments with very cold temperatures and precipitation. The final day was much nicer for the Buffs as temps neared 60 degrees.

Freshman Ben Treadway (Johnson City, Tenn.) was the Buffs only All-Region selection with his 54-hole total of 230 (80/74/76). Junior Michael Woods (Knoxville, Tenn.) came in next for the Buffs with a three round total of 235 (80/78/77), while senior Grayson Patton (Fries, Va.) played in his final collegiate tournament as he fired a total of 236 (80/79/77). Junior Jay Bernhardt (Johnston City, Ill.) rounded the top four with a final tally of 244 (80/80/84).

“We all really wanted to get back to the national tournament,” said Bernhardt. “We all made a few mistakes managing the golf course, but in the end we had a respectable finish.”

Tennessee Wesleyan College won the event with a total of 912. Covenant College was runner-up with a score of 939, while Milligan was just six shots behind at 945. Tennessee Wesleyan’s Tyler Smith won the Region XII tournament with a three round total of 218 (74/71/74).

The Buffs had a successful spring campaign as they finished second in the AAC and third in the Region XII. Patton was an All-AAC selection, while Treadway found himself as an All-Region selection.

Patton finished his Milligan career with four All-AAC picks, three All-Region picks, Region XII Player of the Year, and AAC Player of the Year honors.
