Laney names first soccer recruits

New Milligan Head Men's Soccer Coach Adam Laney has announced the addition of the first two recruits to the 2008 class. Josh Scott (London, England), a transfer from Hiwassee College and Ben Richardson (Harve de Grace, Md.) are the first two players to join the Buffs under Coach Laney tenure.

“I am excited about these two young men. I have nothing but confidence in the fact that they will fit right in to what our team is doing and where our program would like to go. Coach Lilly has done a wonderful job during the coaching transition and I believe his effort has helped the program add two quality members,” said Laney.

Scott is a versatile defensive player from London, England. He led the Hiwassee men's soccer team to back-to-back conference championships in 2006 and 2007, along with an appearance in the 2007 regional championship. During his final season he collected 7 goals and 15 assists, leading his team to a record 14-5-2 season.

“Josh is a quality well rounded player. He has the desire to defend well and takes pride in shutting down an opposing attacker, yet he has the composure on the ball to affect the game offensively as well. He has the potential to play a wide variety of roles for us next year and we are looking for him to step up and fill the shoes of our graduating defenders.”

Richardson, a 5'7”, 160 pound midfielder, will be joining Milligan from Harve de Grace High School in Maryland. Ben is a hard-working individual player who captained the Warriors during the 2008 fall campaign. Individually he earned team MVP and First Team All-County honors on 6 goals and 10 assists for the season.

“In my conversations with Ben, I have no doubt we are gaining a quality individual with a strong work ethic. His desire and intelligence will help our team in numerous ways on and off the field. I expect Ben to go beyond my goals, and be the full embodiment of what the Collegiate Student-Athlete is supposed to be.”
