Lady Buffs stampede Rams


Bluefield, Va. (April 19, 2008) --- Ready to play, the Lady Buffs defeated Bluefield College 9-1 in both games. This afternoons wins improve the Lady Buffs overall record to 25-16 and 10-2 in AAC conference play, in which they currently are in first.

Game 1 Milligan 9 Bluefield 1

Sophomore Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) started on the mound for the Lady Buffs, pitching three innings and getting the win. Sophomore Kayla Walker (Tracy, Calif.) stepped in to pitch relief, in the fourth inning, and got the save for the Lady Buffs. The Lady Buffs knocked in nine runs on 13 hits. Coming up big was senior Sarah Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.) going 3-for-4 and hitting two homeruns. Laken Stewart (Pennington Gap, Va.) and Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn .) both went 2-for-4 at the plate, slugging in a homerun a piece.

Game 2 Milligan 9 Bluefield 1

Freshman Sydney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) started for the Lady Buffs and was able to retire eight batters, before Musick came in to pitch relief. Burns got the win for the Lady Buffs while Musick got the save. The Lady Buffs collected nine runs off of 11 hits. Performing strong at the plate was Smith going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Stewart batted 2-for-4 with a homerun for the Lady Buffs. Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) rounded out the batters that performed strong at the plate going 2-for-4.

“The girls continue to play strong and our hitting has improved over the last several games,” commented Head Coach Wes Holly.

The Lady Buffs will travel to Bristol, Tenn. to take part in the Tennessee/Virginia State Line Classic. The Lady Buffs will face Virginia Intermont first with the game starting at 2 p.m. Following that game Milligan will face Emory and Henry at 4 p.m. This will all take place at White Top Park on Tuesday, April 22.
