Determined to make contact with the ball, the Lady Buffs received a hard fought victory. Sydney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) took her place on the mound at the start of the game. It was a tough time on the mound for Burns, as she allowed five runs on five hits. Burns pitched two innings and then was replaced by Musick. Musick stepped in and pitched the rest of the game.

“Musick stepped up big for us on the mound and just did a great job,” commented Head Coach Wes Holly.

The Lady Buffs collected seven runs off of 13 hits. They were led at the plate by Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) and Heather Poindexter (Germanton, N.C.) each batting 3-for-3. Lydia Sharpe (Kingsport, Tenn.) also had an impressive night at the plate going 3-for-4. Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn.) and Holly Napier (Pennington Gap, Va.) also contributed to the hitting for the Lady Buffs. Local star and leader Sarah Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.) is credited with the clutch performance of the night. It was her double in the bottom of the seventh that sent the winning run into home plate.

“I was really disappointed in the way we struggled to hit the ball in the first game, but am extremely proud of the girls to regain their composure and determination to fight back and pick a victory in the second game,” stated Head Coach Wes Holly.

The Lady Buffs will have a few days to recuperate before they are back in action on April 17, at 2 p.m. The Lady Buffs will have to travel to Athens, Tenn. to face Tennessee Wesleyan.
