Lady Buffs fall in first round
Albany, Ind. (May 7, 2008) --- The Lady Buffs softball team fell in a tight match against Indian University Southeast by a margin of 3-4. NAIA Region XII Pitcher of the Week Sidney Burns (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) once again led from the mound and accumulated 10 strike-outs and only four hits during the entire encounter.
Leading at the plate was Laken Stewart (Pennington Gap, Va.) and local standout Sarah Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.) who went 3 for 4 and 1 for 2 respectively. Stewart returned to record a single RBI and lift the Lady Buffs to within striking distance of the opposition.
IUS rallied late in the game to steal the winning run and just snatch the decisive run and the win.
“We played sluggish today, especially on the defensive side,” commented Coach Wes Holly. “We need to shake this off and get ready to play hard tomorrow. Getting back on the winning side of the bracket is our number one goal tomorrow."
Milligan will play next tomorrow, Thursday, May 8, at 10 a.m.
