Lady Buffs blow away Tornadoes

Milligan College, Tenn. (Mar. 26, 2008) --- The Milligan College softball team played their first conference games tonight against conference rival King College. The Lady Buffs blew the Tornadoes away as they won the first game 6-0 and the second game 4-0.

Game 1 Milligan 6 King 0

In the first game the Lady Buffs saw an astonishing performance on the mound from standout freshman Sydney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.). Burns pitched all seven innings and recorded a remarkable nine strikeouts. Burns only gave up two hits in the entire game.

The Lady Buffs got their bats around and had several players contribute to the victory. Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) and Jessica Russell (New Market, Tenn.) were the leading batters for the Lady Buffs, going 2-for-4 from the plate. Russell also recorded one RBI for the Lady Buffs. Holly Napier (Pennington Gap, Va.) was 1-for-2 inside the batters box and recorded two RBIs for the Lady Buffs. Other players that recoded an RBI for the Lady Buffs include Sydney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), Heather Poindexter (Germanton, N.C.) and Mallory Tincher (Jacksonville, Fla.).

Game 2 Milligan 4 King 0

Again the Lady Buffs came out strong and dominated the game. Sydney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) once again started for the Lady Buffs. Burns pitched four innings and retired five batters. Local standout Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) came in and closed the game for the Lady Buffs. Musick retired three batters and allowed only two hits in her time on the mound.

Mallory Tincher (Jacksonville, Fla.), Laken Stewart (Pennington Gap, Va .), and Sydney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) led at the plate, all batting 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Buffs. Senior outfielder Heather Poindexter (Germanton, N.C.) also was strong at the plate, batting 1-for-2. Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) and Burns had two RBIs each for the Lady Buffs. Jessica Russell (New Market, Tenn.) recorded a single RBI for the Lady Buffs as well.

“We played two great games, against a great opponent,” commented Head Coach Wes Holly. “Our team rose to the occasion and showed tremendous team effort.”
