Softball sweeps Montreat

Milligan College, Tenn. (Apr. 7, 2008) --- The Lady Buffs softball team now moves to 6-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with a clean sweep of the Montreat College 2-1, 3-0. With the match-up against Team USA quickly approaching the Lady Buffs disposed of the opposition efficiently. 

Game 1 – Milligan 2 Montreat 1

Freshmen Sidney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) pitched a complete game for the Buffs and allowed only three hits while she struck out three batters. Burns gave up one unearned run. The Buffs scored two runs on six hits. Senior Sarah Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Junior Laken Stewart (Pennington Gap, Va.) crossed the plate in the first inning which lifted the Buffs to victory.  

Game 2 – Milligan 3 Montreat 0

Burns pitched another complete game this time allowing only one hit while recording seven strikeouts. The Buffs scored their three runs on just five hits. Sophomore Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn.) went 1-for-3 with a double. Stewart went 1-for-3 with an RBI, as did senior Holly Napier (Pennington Gap, Va.).

The Buffs host the Bulldogs of Union College for a double header on Tuesday, April 8. The first game is schedule to start at 1pm.
