Lady Buffs split conference game
Milligan College, Tenn. (Apr. 12, 2008) --- The Lady Buffs softball team took on the UVA-Wise Lady Cavaliers at Milligan today. They came from behind in the first game of a double header to grab the win 3-2 but were unable to surpass Cavs for the second game. The Lady Buffs remain on top of the conference with an 8-2 record.
Game 1: 3-2
The Lady Cavs put two runs on the board in the first inning, setting the Lady Buffs behind. But, the Lady Buffs worked hard the rest of the game to get the hits and runs needed to win. Leading at the plate for Milligan was Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) with a two-run home run that put the Lady Buffs on top. Sara Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.), Laken Stewert (Pennington Gap, Va.), Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn.), Mallory Tincher (Jacksonville, Fla.), and Jesa Russell (New Market, Tenn.) all contributed to the win with a hit each. Sidney Burns (Ft.Lauderdale, Fla.) pitched seven complete innings for the Lady Buffs, giving up five hits, gaining eight strikeouts, and allowing two earned runs.
Game 2: 2-3
Once again, Blevins lead the Lady Buffs at the plate, getting two hits in four at-bats, including a double. Adding the Lady Buff's five hits were Tincher, Heather Poindexter (Germanton, N.C.) and Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) with one hit apiece. Burns , again, started the game and pitched four innings, giving up six hits, three earned runs, one walk, and striking out three batters. Musick game in for relief and pitched three scoreless innings, giving up only one hit, and recording four strikeouts.
The Lady Buffs are set to play Team USA at Cardinal Park in Johnson City, Tenn., on April 13, 2008, at 2 p.m.
