Lady Buffs continue to dominate
Bristol, Va. (April 2, 2008) --- The Lady Buffs softball team improved their win streak to seven and continued to show their dominance. The Lady Buffs over powered Virginia Intermont 8-0 in the first game and then 5-1 in the second game.
Game 1 Milligan 8 Virginia Intermont 0
The Lady Buffs got off to a strong start and never looked back. The Lady Buffs scored eight runs on eight hits. Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) led the way for the Lady Buffs at the plate, going 2-for-3 and bring in three RBIs. Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn. ) also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Mallory Tincher (Jacksonville, Fla.), Jessica Russell (New Market, Tenn.), Sydney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), and Holly Napier (Pennington Gap, Va.) all went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Burns got the start for the Lady Buffs on the mound and had an impressive game. She pitched a shutout, allowing only one hit and retiring nine batters. Burns is credited with the win for the Lady Buffs.
Game 2 Milligan 5 Virginia Intermont 1
Burns started the second game for the Lady Buffs once again on the mound and pitched four innings. During that time she only gave up two hits and recorded two strikeouts. Burns is credited with the win. Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) stepped in and finished the game. Musick pitched the final three innings and during that time she allowed only four hits. Musick retired two batters and is credited with the save.
Leading the way for the Lady Buffs at the plate was junior Blevins and freshman Alicia Engle (Erwin, Tenn.) both batting 2-for-3. Sarah Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.), White, and Napier all had single hits for the Lady Buffs.
“These were two great wins and we played well in both of the games, committing only two errors in the two games,” commented Head Coach Wes Holly.
The Lady Buffs will play again on April 5, at Montreat, N.C. The will be facing conference foe Montreat College and the games are expected to start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
