Lady Buffs continue winning ways
Milligan College, Tenn. (Apr. 13, 2008) --- The Milligan College Lady Buffs tennis team continued their winning ways against the Covenant College Lady Scots Saturday afternoon by a winning margin of 6-3.
Caitlin Conley (Bristol, Tenn.) and Jessie Rose Remegi (Hilton Head, S.C.) proved again they are tough duo to beat winning their doubles by a score of 8-1. Melissa Grgat Melbourne, Australia) had to dig deep in her epic encounter with Covenant's Julia Myers but ultimately controlled the match in the third set so leave the score line 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
In other singles matches, Conley, Remegi, Sara Hopson (Greeneville, Tenn.) and Kelley Yates (Indianapolis, Ind.) all chalked up impressive wins for the Lady Buffs as they continue their Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season in style.
"I'm very proud of the women's team. We've won as many games as we've played in a week and it's testament to the resolve and determination,” commented Head Coach Ron Worrell. “They have hit their stride at the right time. We have a Monday match with Tennessee Wesleyan College and the AAC tournament next Friday and Saturday. Right now we're ranked second in the conference and we know we have to work hard to stay there.”
The Milligan men lost to Covenant by a score of 9-0. Johnathon Ryan (Wangarratta, Australia) and Bryan Upshaw (Kingsport, Tenn.) had their chances to win, but just fell short by a score of 9-7. Ryan also went the distance in singles but lost a tie-breaker in the third set, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(3).
"It was a very windy day and all the players' struggled with the blustery conditions. Johnathon played a great match but just couldn't pull it out," said Coach Worrell.
