Lady Buffs blow away competition
Bristol, Tenn. (Apr. 9, 2008) --- The Lady Buffs won their second conference match in a row today at King College by a score of 6-3. Milligan impressively swept all three doubles matches over the Tornados. In singles at the no. 1 slot Melissa Grgat (Melbourne, Australia) cruised to 6-0, 6-1 victory over King's Marley Cutler. Caitlin Conley (Bristol, Tenn.) looked sharp as she won her match at no. 2 singles match-up over Crystal Harwell, 6-1, 6-0. Sara Hopson (Greeneville, Tenn.) won her singles encounter by a score of 8-0.
“I was very happy to see us take all three doubles today,” said Head Coach Ron Worrell. “I thought Melissa looked very relaxed and was in great form today in her singles match. Caitlin looked sharp in her singles too.”
The Milligan men are in a rebuilding phase this season and they did not fair so well as King College won with a dominant performance of 9-0.
Johnathon Ryan (Wangaratta, Australia) played a great match at no. 1 singles but lost in a third set tie-breaker to Jon Jonsson. 6-3, 2-6, (10-7). Bryan Upshaw (Kingsport, Tenn.) played a good first set but lost to Andre Franco, 6-4, 6-1.
“King is a much stronger team than last year and we are in a rebuilding phase,” said Coach Worrell.
