Olympians Stephens, Mothersill headline 2008 Milligan Relays

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TENN. (Mar. 20, 2008) --- Milligan College head coach Chris Layne announced this week that Olympic couple Ato Stephens and Cydonie Mothersill will headline the 2008 Milligan Relays on March 27th at Johnson City's Liberty Bell Track and Field Complex.

Stephens, who is scheduled to compete in the 800 meters and 200 meters, represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games in the 400 meters and boasts a personal best of 44.87. Mothersill owns lifetime bests of 11.08 (100 meters), 22.39 (200 meters), and 53.13 (400 meters), all national records for her native Cayman Islands which she represented in the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Olympic Games. She plans to compete in each of the sprint events on the 27th.

The married couple both competed for Clemson University during their collegiate careers.

The 2008 version of the resurrected Milligan Relays, which once featured major college track programs from all over the southeast, will feature a fan-friendly format of 23 events conducted in less than four hours.

"We're in the early stages of bringing this event back, but wanted to provide the track and field community with another chance to see world-class athletes in our backyard," said Layne.

The event starts at 2:45pm with the long jump and discus throw and concludes with the men's 4 x 400 meter relay at 6:40pm.
