Buffs with big win
Cookeville, Tenn. (April 15, 2008) --- The Milligan College men’s baseball team snapped their losing streak Tuesday at Tennessee Tech University. The Buffs defeated the Golden Eagles by a final of 7-3.
Sophomore Todd Caldwell (Johnson City, Tenn.) was on the hill for six innings and earned the win while only giving up four hits and two earned runs. Sophomore Toby Hoyle (Johnson City, Tenn.), junior Michael Dillow (Gray, Tenn.), and sophomore Frank Newcomb (Knoxville, Tenn.) all pitched an inning of relief for the Buffs. Senior Baker DeCamp (Miami, Fla.) led the Buffs at the plate going 3-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Junior Justin Motte (Johnson City, Tenn.) went 2-5 with one RBI, while junior Brandon Murphy (Johnson City, Tenn.) also went 2-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Freshman Weston Pearson (Swanannoa, N.C.) went 2-3 with one run scored.
“We played very well today,” said Milligan College Head Coach Nathan Meade. “(Tennessee) Tech has a great a great ball club. We had all three phases of the game working for us today with our pitching, hitting, and defense. I hope we can carry out the rest of the season the way we played today.”
The Buffs travel to Wise, Va. to take on the Cavs of UVA-Wise Saturday, April 19. The first game of this AAC matchup is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
