Milligan sweeps Bluefield
Milligan College, Tenn. (March 29, 2008) --- The Milligan College men's baseball team extended their winning streak to four Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field as they swept Bluefield College in AAC action. The Buffs won the first game 9-6 and the second game 5-2.
Junior Michael Dillow (Gray, Tenn.) started out on the hill for the Buffs and improved his record to 6-1 on the year. Dillow gave up two runs on five hits, while he struck out two in six innings. Sophomore Frank Newcomb (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned the save in one full inning of work. Newcomb gave up one run on two hits, but struck out three batters to end the game. Junior Spencer Street (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the Buffs at the plate while going 4-5, with one run scored and two RBIs. Sophomore Justin Motte (Johnson City, Tenn.) went 3-5, including a solo shot to right field. Motte scored two runs and one RBI during the first game. Junior Brandon Murphy (Johnson City, Tenn.) went 3-5, including a first inning triple which scored the first run of the game. Murphy finished with a run and two RBIs.
Senior Nathan Fritz (Kingsport, Tenn.) earned the win during the final game of the afternoon. Fritz pitched a complete game in the effort as he gave up one earned run on six hits. Fritz also struck out six batters. Senior Baker DeCamp (Miami, Fla.) and junior Brian Busby (Lexington, S.C.) led the Buffs at the plate as they both went 2-3 with one run scored. Sophomore Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) went 2-3 as well in the nightcap, including a deep shot to left field. Morgan scored one run and two RBIs.
The Buffs travel to Lee University for a non-conference series Tuesday, April 1. The first game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
